Yep! That is the excuse that I frequently hear as a retort. There are a couple of problems with this response.

First and foremost, it ignores the fact that obviously the case can be made that God wants you to live like this. So why excuse yourself just because the government is trying to make you do it?

Secondly, and perhaps most important, is that they have no problems with the government making you do other things that they feel is biblical, as long as they like it. For instance, the government telling you what you can or cannot do with your body. Or the government telling you what you can or cannot recite in school.

I don’t get me started on biblical interpretation in the right wing evangelical church. We do not have enough time in the day. 😂
