If you are white, you have privileges afforded you that others who are not white don't have. Period. It does not discount the value of your talents or the hard work you've done in life. It does not mean you are a racist. It also is not "blaming" you for the lack of pigment in your skin. You feeling "blamed" is exactly why this term is so problematic (despite how perfect it really is). I don't know how else to explain it.
The fact that you want to separate "privilege" from race is one of the "societal benefits" you get from being white (see what I did there? :) Some of us don't have that privilege.
